In just the past two years, Chris Micheli, ’92, has translated his extensive knowledge and experience developed based on his many years navigating California’s Capitol to publish seven books on California’s legislative and regulatory processes. His most recent book, "Insiders Talk: Guide to Executive Branch Agency Rulemaking: Policy, Procedure, Participation, and Post-Promulgation Appeal" was published in July 2021.

Micheli is a long-time adjunct faculty member in McGeorge’s Capital Center for Law & Policy, teaching Lawmaking in California and class sessions as part of McGeorge’s Legislative and Public Policy Clinic. He also teaches in McGeorge online Master of Science in Law, Government Law & Policy program. He is also a principal at the Sacramento-based government affairs firm Aprea & Micheli.

“I was inspired to write these books because of my work as an adjunct professor at McGeorge,” Micheli said. “I wanted to make sure students have resources to assist them in the Capital Lawyering Program and share my knowledge and experience with future colleagues. I have been fortunate to have had several valuable mentors over the years, and now it is my turn to do the same.”

The books cover virtually every aspect of law and policymaking via the California state government. Six of the seven books are the first of their kind. Micheli has published:

“McGeorge is fortunate to count Professor Micheli among our Capital Lawyering and Capital Center adjunct faculty. His years of experience as a lobbyist and attorney bring real-world perspective into the classroom and his books serve as valuable resources for students seeking to better understand California’s uniquely complex political, legislative, and administrative processes,” said Erin O'Neal Muilenburg, director of the Capital Center for Law & Policy and Capital Lawyering Concentration

Micheli is a regular guest on CAP•impact Podcast, which is a resource for understanding and shaping law and policy. The podcast is produced by McGeorge’s Capital Center for Law & Policy.

McGeorge School of Law is home to the Capital Center for Law & Policy and is located in Sacramento, California’s capital city. McGeorge’s proximity to the State Capitol, and the law school's Capital Lawyering Concentration, provide students with an unparalleled opportunity to impact critical government and public policy issues while completing a JD degree. 100 percent of 2020 Capital Lawyering Concentration students were employed within 10 months of graduation.

McGeorge also offers a variety of advanced degrees that focus on the interconnections of law, policy, management, and leadership, including an online Master of Science in Law (MSL) degree in Government Law & Policy, a Master of Public Policy (MPP) degree, and Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree. McGeorge's MPA and MPP degrees were the first programs of their kind to be offered by a law school.
