McGeorge graduates enjoy record job placement rates

Four students walk across campus

For the third year in a row, McGeorge School of Law’s graduates achieved one of the law school’s highest U.S. News job placement rates, according to data submitted to the American Bar Association. Overall, 85% of graduates secured employment within 10 months of graduation, and 78.9% of graduates landed positions considered “best jobs” by U.S. News & World Report.

McGeorge's post-graduate employment has improved by more than 31.7% in the past five years.

“We could not be prouder of these graduates, who have shown remarkable strength, determination, and stamina through the last two years. Our graduates, in the middle of a pandemic, applied the tools and skills they gained at McGeorge to secure positions in a wide variety of practice areas where we know they will find personal and professional satisfaction,” said Molly Stafford, Assistant Dean for Career Development and External Relations at McGeorge.

The U.S. News “best jobs” data for Students of Color at McGeorge is even better. For the second consecutive year, McGeorge Students of Color secured the jobs at a greater rate than the four years prior. This year, more than 81.3% of the schools’ Students of Color secured U.S. News “best jobs” within 10 months of graduation.

79.1% of the Class of 2020 was employed in long-term, full-time positions that either required bar admission or were “JD-preferred” within 10 months after graduation, according to information published in a study by U.S. News & World Report in March 2022. McGeorge ranked No. 6 in California for the number of 2020 graduates employed within 10 months of graduation, ranking higher than the University of San Diego School of Law, University of California, Hastings College of the Law, Chapman University Fowler School of Law, and Santa Clara University School of Law.

The law school credits its focus on practical training for its success. PreLaw Magazine ranked McGeorge among the top third of law schools in the country for practical training in its Spring 2022 issue. This ranking is based on schools' practice-focused course offerings, such as clinics, externships, simulation courses, pro bono hours, and moot court participation. McGeorge offers more than 100 hands-on externship opportunities and is home to seven legal clinics. McGeorge ranks No. 16 for Trial Advocacy in the nation.

“We are proud of all the continued success of our students at McGeorge,” Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz said. “These outcomes reflect the hard work and dedication I see from our students who are eager to start their legal careers.”

Employment data for ABA-accredited law schools is available on the ABA website.
