Pacific student-athletes achieved an outstanding 3.31 average team GPA during the fall—the best mark in four semesters—earning national, conference and university academic recognition.

The student-athlete average has exceeded 3.0 for 13 consecutive semesters. Fifteen of the 17 programs had a team GPA over 3.0 led by the men’s golf team at 3.73.

“We are proud of the efforts of our student-athletes, both in the classroom and on the golf course,” said Men’s Golf Head Coach John Cook. “We stress the importance of time management, and they did a tremendous job.” The men’s golf team also had the highest GPA in Athletics in the fall of 2021.

Men’s tennis had the second highest team GPA at 3.57.

“Our upperclassmen have done a brilliant job mentoring our newer student athletes, helping guide them on the road and being a resource,” said Men’s Tennis Head Coach Robin Goodman.

The women’s basketball program was third overall and top among the women’s programs with a 3.55 GPA.

“I firmly believe Pacific is a place where you can compete at the highest level in Division I and receive a student-centered education in a major of your choice at one of the best universities in the country,” said Women’s Basketball Head Coach Bradley Davis.

Pacific senior Liam Egan won the Elite 90 award for the 2022 NCAA Men’s Water Polo Championship. The award recognizes the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average participating in the championship. The finance major graduated with a 3.94 GPA in December.

“With our water polo program, Coach Graham talks with us about owning our actions. I was able to take that mentality out of the pool and apply it to the academic work,” Egan said. “Skills like time management, organization, balance, the ability to control my emotions in big situations and even handling failure I learned in athletics, and it helped in my academic pursuits.”

The West Coast Conference honored 32 Pacific student-athletes with Academic All-Conference awards, including four first-team honorees: women’s soccer senior Jenae Packard, men’s soccer seniors Avery Whipple and Emory Rappaport and volleyball sophomore Megan Nishimura.
